Ghana turns 65 today

Ghana marks its 65th Independence Day anniversary celebration today, March 6, 2022.
This year’s Independence Day parade is ongoing at the Cape Coast Stadium in the Central Region.
The celebration is on the theme, “Working together; Bouncing Back Better.”

Ahead of the celebration, President Nana Akufo-Addo said the country had a story of hope.
“We have a story. Ours is a story of hope! A story that has evolved with time, from the struggles of our forefathers to the victory they won for us. All along the way, we have built this nation together, from the South to the North, from the East to the West.”

Ghana became the first sub-Saharan African country to attain independence from the United Kingdom (UK).
The country’s Independence was won by the then Prime Minister, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, on March 6, 1957.
