The alumni of the University of Jos in Nigeria spent this year’s Valentine’s Day with one of their past classmates currently experiencing mental illness.
The classmate, Mr. Minabelem Hilary, was left in his current situation on the eve of his Master’s thesis defense.
The benevolent friends drew tears from the eyes of many in Bakana, Rivers State, as they left the comfort of their homes in Abuja to celebrate the day with their former classmate.
Support
The group took turns to hug Mr. Hilary, presented him with the new clothes they had bought for him, and exchanged hilarious school tales with him.
After this, they took him to the Psychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt, and paid for his treatment and admission to a private ward with a sum of N320,000.00 (three hundred and twenty thousand naira).
Recovery
A doctor at the hospital where Hilary got admitted said the patient had a good chance of complete recovery if he took his drugs religiously.
He thanked the group for the kind gesture and called on other groups and organisations to emulate the kind gesture.
